Here is an excerpt of "Left and Right of the Boom. The Art of Leadership, Before, During, and After Crisis"

On the morning of March 8, 2009, I awoke after a restless night’s sleep on a remote base near the border of Pakistan. I was a United States Army Lieutenant Colonel and the Commander of 1 st Squadron, 40 th Cavalry Regiment, Airborne deployed to Afghanistan. That sunny, mild morning would turn dark. A life would be lost to an improvised explosive device or IED on the front end of a 12-month deployment - the life of Private First Class Patrick Devoe from Auburn, New York. At once my unit was thrust into crisis and it would need the best of my leadership.

Fast forward nearly 15 years, post-military and I was the owner of a small business - a window fashion company. We had suffered a series of bad customer experiences which could have had a lasting negative impact to the business and its people. We were on the cusp of a crisis which would again, need the best of my leadership.

These two scenarios (booms!) - vastly different in scale, would require the same leadership approach. They would require myself and my teams to get "left and right of the boom."

I wrote this book for leaders. In it I share stories of war and of small business under duress and how a leader can better prepare, lead, and learn from them. I'll offer the "5 Cs of Crisis Leadership." I'll help you build a crisis-ready foundation, offer concepts on operating efficiently when in crisis and help you lead change. I'll challenge you to consider optimism and opportunity in the toughest of times and help you take the offense!

The boom is coming - it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Will you and your team be ready?

Grateful.
